HUG & PRAY

Today I ask you to hug your kids and pray for the families suffering from the HORRIBLE shooting in Connecticut. Innocent children went to heaven today and we have no idea why...

Christmas time

There has been a lot going on in other areas of our life so Vern stories are short. It has been overshadowing almost everything else. This will hopefully be over soon and life can move forward. That aside, we have been preparing for Christmas. The kids were busy and put up two trees this year. We are hosting Christmas and the house will be full! We decided to put up two trees for the occasion. They look great. The kids did a wonderful job. It is not how I would decorate a tree but sometimes you just let things go and appreciate what the kids do for you. I still love it. Here is a picture of one of our trees.

Yesterday was package wrapping day. It took hubby and me ALL day to wrap. It was exhausting.  I am sure I could have gotten done an hour or so earlier but I kept having the four-legged children jump onto my lap and refuse to move.  Here is one photo taken by me. She is on my lap with a package partially wrapped on my knees. She would not leave. This went on all day.  The only way I could get her off me was to stand up. Yes, some packages were wrapped standing just to prevent the cling-on cat from depositing herself on me.

It was a good weekend and soon Santa will visit. I can't wait!!!!! I love Christmas.

Doing well.

Vern has been doing well lately. I received the following note from one of his teachers and it made me proud.

Vern is doing a great job in Math! He really remembers his stuff and gets busy :0) Tell him to keep up the great work!

P.S. I enjoy watching him preform at church in the skits :0)

He is at a great age right now. He has a great personality and is really trying. I will take it! Teenage hormones will hit soon enough and this will all change but until then I am appreciating the good days with Vern.

Budding Photographer

Sometimes you don't need a lot of words to describe something so fun and heartwarming. This is one such photo.

I love you Vern!!!

Championship Game -2012!!!!

It was a sunny but crisp day for this noon game. It finally felt like football weather with blankets and hats and hot chocolate.  Since it is the last game I have a lot of photos to share. I am so proud of the team this year. They played like a team and they will only get better each year they play together.

I was ok with Vern on sidelines this game to be sure he was recovered from his neck injury even though doc cleared him for play.

The end of a play. Vern is still standing.

Vern pushing on a guy twice his size!

Pushing on that same kid again with not a lot of luck.

Good shot of Vern right in the middle of the photo.

Vern playing corner. He is on the right side of the photo feet above the ground. Does this mean Vern walks on air????

Here is Vern playing corner. He missed this big play, being to far away from the receiver.

Here is Vern walking away after the touchdown. Love the arms out to the side.

Here we have the disappointing final score. We lost but played the boys played with all their heart.

Celebrating with the trophey after the game. Vern was one of the first to get his hands on the trophey!

A lot of photo ops after the game posing and smiling. The boys were disappointed but still happy to get a trophey.

More smiling and posing.

Each boy had their photo taken with the trophey.

The after game coach speachs. Vern looks like he is praying.
Great season Vern. This mama is VERY proud of you and the team. 9-1 is fabulous!!!!!

One liners

The Thursday before the big championship game, Vern hurts his neck. Some kid hit him and gave him quite a stinger. We went to urgent care and things looked OK. The bad part, Vern was not cleared to play until we went to see our primary care doctor.

On that Friday off to Docs we go to see if Vern will be able to play in the championship game.  In comes Doc. He is a happy guy and likes to joke with the kids. In he blazes with his jovial personality and joking with Vern. (He is handsome so that is a fringe benefit. hee hee)

He then begins to ask Vern questions about his injury. How did it happen? Where does it hurt? You get the picture.

Then, Doc gets to....are you having any headaches?

Vern looks over at me, doesn't break a smile but has a twinkle in his eye and proceeds to say - Only her.

Doc can't help it. He bursts out laughing.  Then Doc asks Vern, Do you cook?

Vern replies, Yes, macaroni and cheese!

OK Doc concedes - proceed on teasing your mom.

At work later....

I'm working away in my cube and Vern is sitting beside me reading. We are quietly minding our business when we hear Lady B (for b*tch) stop in to talk to Lady A in an office very nearby.

Lady B proceeds to start in (if you work in an office you know the type - never happy and always complaining about something). ")@)@$)#$)_++(_!*_$%$&&^$^&GW%(^*(#Y@;#);@# Squawk squawk squawk" On and on and on.

Vern suddenly stops reading.  Looks up and says to me, "What is THAT ladies problem? She sure is cranky!"

It took everything in me not to burst out laughing. I did have to instant message what Vern said to a couple of people that know her and we had a good laugh.  Sometimes you can't fix cranky but you sure can laugh about it.

HAPPY 12th BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy 12th Birthday Vern!

Today my baby turns 12. He is having a birthday celebration month! Last weekend we went to big brother John's college to visit and went out for pizza for this birthday celebration.

This morning for his actual birthday, we had a big breakfast of eggs, sausage, juice and milk. We followed this by opening his presents.

He has yet to celebrate his birthday at his father's house.

PLUS, he wants to have cake for this birthday with his grandparents!
Yep, Vern is celebrating with a birthday month.  It's OK Vern GO FOR IT and I hope the entire month is fun-filled.

Love,
Mom.

Post Season - Game 2 - 2012

This is for the championship of the North division in our league. It was two teams from the same town facing off in a hometown sort of battle. All I can say is WOW what a game.

It was yet another great football day with fabulous weather. Sun and not a lot of wind.

I was cheering and screaming and the boys did fabulous!  Vern had been demoted to basically second stringer for the last few games but the first string kid went out on the first play of the game with a concussion so Vern had to step up and play almost the entire game. He was one tired boy by the end but I have to say he did GREAT!

Kickoff time. Look at that game face!
RUN VERN RUN!

Chasing the play.  On a side note, those Porto-potties in the background were beyond disgusting...Just sayin.

Where did everyone go? Vern must be so mean they all ran away from him :-)

Vern is at the bottom of this pig pile.

The final score. We were the guests (underdogs) and won!!!!

Here is the after game talking to. They boys tried to douse the coach with water but coach ended up with the cooler of water and some of the boys were wetter than coach!

We had special spectators for this game. Vern's grandma, grandpa and aunt who was up all the way from 2 states away came to watch. They had a good time and we all went for Pizza after the game.

Next up the Championship Game of the year!!!!

Post Season Game 1 - 2012

For this post, Vern has selected the photos to include. He enjoys looking at the photos of the game each week so I let him select which ones to include this time.  Now onto the game and...

What a game it was! There is a reason they call it the playoffs - good teams are matched up.  This game was no exception. Both teams are good and they both played with all their hearts.

Here we have Vern lining up on offense as guard.

Great shot of Vern blocking so the running back can gain some big yards. Vern is perfectly doing his position.

Here I think Vern is done with his blocks and just watching the play unfold into a hopeful touchdown.

Here they are again. They were at home and I believe this is an extra point attempt as the ball is at the very right of the photo.

On this shot Vern is to the right of the white #2 player.  Vern is not scared of any player no matter the size! LOVE IT.

Here is the final score 27-13 and onto the division championship next week! GO BLACK. I can't wait. I think my stomach gets as many butterflies as Vern's.

Had to include this last one. His grandpa is a F-A-N of Vern and his football. He has made it to 3 games so far. Vern loves when he has visitors so I had to get a quick shot with my cell phone even if Vern's eyes are closed.

Thanks Grandpa for attending!

Game 7 - End of regular season 2012

UNDEFEATED 7-0!!! DA MOM standing and cheering.

The team is playing great together. They are a great bunch of kids all doing their job and happy to be a part of such a good team. I wonder if they even realize that is what makes a great team. Not one star player but a bunch of good kids doing great things.

Here are some photos from the beautiful fall day.

They are lined up in the huddle. Vern is the only one left almost with black socks, the color they were supposed to have all season.

Play is just beginning here. Vern up and ready to block.

FUMBLE!!!!!!

Vern is in the middle of the action here, #27.

Vern is lined up as corner on this play. He is awesome!

This is Vern doing his corner blocking. Referee is in the way.

Another shot of Vern at corner.

And the follow-up blocking of the big dude!

It ended up being a 39-0 trouncing. There was no scoreboard to take a photo of as they stop keeping track after so many points just to make it easier on the kids losing.

I really felt bad for the other team. They did try but just weren't the same caliber as our team.

Next up - the playoffs!!!!

80's Day!

Since it was home coming, the kids get to do fun things each day before the big game on Friday. One such day this week was 1980's day. Surprisingly, they both wanted to dress up. Well I jumped all over this as I was a teenager wayyyy back in the 1980's. I knew all the trends up close and personal. Heck I had the big hair and blue eye shadow. I had a blast helping them get ready and of course I had to take pictures.

Would you look at all that hair?!?!?!?!

He is B-E-A-S-T.(Vern's word when something is way cool.)

He's sexy and he knows it! (from the song)

Vern came home and told me everyone thought he was a drug dealer!

I hope they had as much fun dressing up as I did dressing them up.

Game 6 - rolling along 2012

Beautiful morning once again for game 6. It really is to bad we are in such a drought.

This game it will be easy to identify Vern. He has an orange sleeve hanging out. What a hoot!  You can see it by this first photo.

Here we have some great blocking going on with Mr. Orange :-)

Here Vern is going for an assist.

PUSH!!!!

Vern played less this game than previous games. I don't know if he is not playing as well or just isn't trying. Here is another blocking shot.

They shut the scoreboard off when one team gets to far ahead so that is why I don't have a shot of the scoreboard. Final: 35-0

Vern's team is just rolling over their opponents.
