Memory Lane

I thought I would take a small trip down memory lane today.  These are the photos that I could find electronically. Unfortunately they start when Vern is 3. I couldn't find any electronic baby photos and some are not the best quality but it is still fun to look back.

Here is Vern - age 3. What a great smile!

Here is Vern in 2004 sleeping.

Another one of Vern in 2004. We spent a lot of time in the minivan that year.

Here he is in 2005.

Oh no the cheezy smiles begin in 2005.

Vern in 2006. He makes me smile.

Vern in 2007.

Here he is in 2008, the teeth have begun to change.

Fall of 2008 for his birthday.

RING RING

You have to know that a post I start out that way will only be a good Vern story.

Yep it was the bus barn calling.

*Ring* *Ring*

or more appropriately since I was at my work and my cell phone is set to never ring at work...

*BUZZZZZ*  *BUZZZZZZ*

I look at caller id.  Hmmm I think, I don't know this number but I recognize its from where the kids go to school so I'd better answer.

"Hello."

"Hi, this is Valorie from the bus barn."

Deep sigh from within me.

"I just need to know what to do with Vern.  He got on the wrong bus tonight and I can't reach his dad."

It was Wednesday thus a dad night.

"Well can you take him back to school where his big brother is at musical practice and I will try to reach his dad?"

"Yes, we can do that."

"Thanks."

I am thinking how can he be on the wrong bus..oh wait it is Vern we are talking about. I'm sure he forgot.

I proceed to make a multitude of phone calls trying to reach his dad, the high school, his sister,etc...

Vern is safe.

When he gets home later that night I ask him what happened.

"MOMMMM, they wouldn't let me off the bus!  I told them I had to get on the other bus (they hadn't left school yet) and the bus driver wouldn't let me!"

Concerned look on my face as he continues.

"But guess what?"

"What?"

"The bus driver had a DS lite and she let me play Fossil hunters. It was the best. Can I have that for my birthday?" (It is January and Vern's birthday is in November.)

"Sure honey."

Just another fun day at our household!

I'd do about anything for them.

Well I am DA MOM and DA MOM's are so crazy in love with their kids they will do just about anything for them.  Today was one such day.  How many reasons did I need to NOT go outside?  Let's see...
1. I have not been home in over a week and wanted to stay home.
2. It was maybe 2 degrees without the feels like temp of -100 or so I thought.
3. The GREEN BAY PACKERS were playing in the NFC championship game. (They won - WOOT WOOT.)

None of that matters. I had to go do something "fun" with the kids. They were needing some mom time. So we went tubing with them!  It was at a local state park. (By local I mean we had to drive 50 miles...)
We packed up layers and layers of clothing, hot chocolate, the sleds, and headed out.

We really had a great time. There were not 1000's of people there, probably because of the things I listed above, so we got to go down as many times as we wanted!  What a workout walking back up those hills. GEEZE.  Vern and I went down once together. Only once as the snow was flying up in our faces so bad poor Vern had a snowball head by the time we got to the bottom. He told me NO MORE MOM!  I told him it was the weight that had us going to fast :-)  It could be an entire other blog writing about Superman and me going down the hill on one of those little blue sleds. Needless to say I was cackling like a hen the entire trip down...

Here are a few photos from after.

Vern, DA MOM, Superman
(Notice Vern's bright red cheeks!)

Vern, me, Ann
Ann went to the car early as her feet froze.

Yeah!!!! We wore him out!
The cheeks are STILL red.

Earth to Vern

Last weekend Vern needed to visit the dentist for a minor surgical procedure.  He did REALLY REALLY well. He was pretty proud of the "hole" in his lip afterwards too.   As he was lying in the chair waiting I thought he looked like a little spaceman with his ear phones and his glasses.  He was so cute I just had to take a picture. I am sharing :-)

Cabin fever!

It is the middle of January in the cold and snowy midwest.  No one can go outside. We are all stuck together in the house.  Things get tense.  Tempers are short.  The holidays are over. We are all back to work and school. We all catch....

CABIN FEVER!!!

Some of us don't even realize we have it.

It is NOT fun.

It IS stressful.

At least there is football to watch.  GO PACK GO!!!!

There is not even anything good to blog about except the bickering.

Hurry up spring before we hurt each other!!!!!!
