April 2014 - Happy Easter!

I was looking at the blogs and thought CRAP, it had been a month since I have updated Vern's blog. There has not been a lot going on. I have been working, working, working so have not done any blogging, even reading blogs.

Vern is really starting to get into puberty. His attitude is typical teenager - BAD. Mouthy, not listening, and all he does is mess with his iPod, XBOX, or computer.

He is doing OK at school - Had one detention this past month.

Today was Easter. He looked so handsome all dressed up. We had to make a quick trip to get dress shoes as he didn't have any that fit. The weather was beautiful so we spent the rest of the day outside.

Vern and his sister helped me with leaves and they picked up stick and pine cones. Then they drove the garden tractor over to a giant burn pile with all the stuff we picked up.

It was a good day and our evening meal Vern loved. We had ham, potatoes, green beans and fruit salad! Vern has bowlfuls of fruit salad the way I make it.

They worked really hard and even got a bit sun burnt. Tonight we are getting a bit of rain. April showers.

School is almost out...

On last post you saw I was not so happy with Vern. I have not posted much as we have been working hard to get through another book and working on his priorities.

I am happy to report that we just finished a book last night. Now he has to get the report written, turned in and approved in order for it to count toward his final grade.

Vern has a big summer planned with camps, vacations, and volunteer work. I will have a lot to write about as we ramp up to summer. Now if only the weather would warm up!

Here he is at his spring concert from school. He is standing beside his best friend. We asked him if he got in trouble a lot in music if he sat that close to his friend. He averted his eyes and said "Sometimes".  At least he is honest!

Well, I am sorry to say things have not really improved with Vern. Last week was tough and by Thursday we had a longggggggggggggggggggg sit down talk. He told us all his troubles at home and at school. We talked about solutions and ways to deal with his problems.  We hoped that would help.

All weekend Vern was with his dad, I didn't hear much from Vern. I called him Saturday to ask about a DS game and he told me about the burn permit his dad got and how they put gas on the brush pile and how it burned out way to quick so the next time they put gas & oil on the brush pile so it would burn longer... Is this allowed?????

Anyway all seemed ok until Sunday night at 9pm. I get a phone call from Vern.

"Mom, I got an after school and I have to do it tomorrow."

"WHAT?!?!?!?! You didn't tell me until 9 p.m. on Sunday night? I have to work tomorrow Vern. I need time to figure things out. You are in BIG trouble."

"I know mom, I am sorry. I was not paying attention."

"How long have you known about this?"

"Well I got it on Friday."
"And you just told me now?"

"Well you were out of town and..."

"I'll call the school tomorrow and we will have a talk when you get home."

"Yes mom."

So I called the teacher, explained the situation, and got things worked out.  Vern got a lecture and some re-emphasis on his responsibilites.  If he can uphold these responsiblities he gets a DS game he has wanted for a long time. We shall see. I hope he does well.

Today was dentist day. I take all 3 kids to the office at the same time. It is quite the production. Luckily it is a good sized office so there are enough hygentist to take care of the kids at nearly the same time. They all got x-rays and cleanings and inspections. I am happy to report only 1 cavity out of the 3 mouths! Vern did well. He needs to try brushing longer and the hygentist suggested having music in the bathroom and he brushes to an entire song. Vern said he liked that idea so we will need to do set up of that.

Tonight I went outside to plant garden while leaving Vern in the house to do his "jobs". He did an ok job with only a couple of redo's needed. Only 38 more days to go...

Where does the summer go?  It has been a week since I posted a blog.

I have to confess, I have been taking some time to focus on my relationship this past weekend and not blogging. Hey it happens, we all have to manage our time to the best of our abilities and it just so happened this past weekend needed work in other areas. :-)

Vern has finished up his swimming lessons.  I have yet to find out if he passed. He did have a YMCA councelor call this morning because he didn't pack a swimsuit from his dad's house and was panicing on what to do for swim lessons.  Vern lucked out in that they are finished. I hope he passed.

He also started summer reading at school. This he doesn't like but that is no big surprise now is it???  He has a bit of homework with the class so I will try to keep him focused during the summer.  I have been spending time before bed with him reading a dragon book his grandma gave him and he seems to enjoy that.  Finding something to interest him is a challenge because what he liked last year he doesn't this year.

This past weekend Vern went tubing with the Scouts. He said he had a good time but had to wear a life jacket. I am glad for that part. I didn't hear much else except it was sunny and nice.
