Post Season Game 1 - 2012

For this post, Vern has selected the photos to include. He enjoys looking at the photos of the game each week so I let him select which ones to include this time.  Now onto the game and...

What a game it was! There is a reason they call it the playoffs - good teams are matched up.  This game was no exception. Both teams are good and they both played with all their hearts.

Here we have Vern lining up on offense as guard.

Great shot of Vern blocking so the running back can gain some big yards. Vern is perfectly doing his position.

Here I think Vern is done with his blocks and just watching the play unfold into a hopeful touchdown.

Here they are again. They were at home and I believe this is an extra point attempt as the ball is at the very right of the photo.

On this shot Vern is to the right of the white #2 player.  Vern is not scared of any player no matter the size! LOVE IT.

Here is the final score 27-13 and onto the division championship next week! GO BLACK. I can't wait. I think my stomach gets as many butterflies as Vern's.

Had to include this last one. His grandpa is a F-A-N of Vern and his football. He has made it to 3 games so far. Vern loves when he has visitors so I had to get a quick shot with my cell phone even if Vern's eyes are closed.

Thanks Grandpa for attending!

Game 7 - End of regular season 2012

UNDEFEATED 7-0!!! DA MOM standing and cheering.

The team is playing great together. They are a great bunch of kids all doing their job and happy to be a part of such a good team. I wonder if they even realize that is what makes a great team. Not one star player but a bunch of good kids doing great things.

Here are some photos from the beautiful fall day.

They are lined up in the huddle. Vern is the only one left almost with black socks, the color they were supposed to have all season.

Play is just beginning here. Vern up and ready to block.

FUMBLE!!!!!!

Vern is in the middle of the action here, #27.

Vern is lined up as corner on this play. He is awesome!

This is Vern doing his corner blocking. Referee is in the way.

Another shot of Vern at corner.

And the follow-up blocking of the big dude!

It ended up being a 39-0 trouncing. There was no scoreboard to take a photo of as they stop keeping track after so many points just to make it easier on the kids losing.

I really felt bad for the other team. They did try but just weren't the same caliber as our team.

Next up - the playoffs!!!!

80's Day!

Since it was home coming, the kids get to do fun things each day before the big game on Friday. One such day this week was 1980's day. Surprisingly, they both wanted to dress up. Well I jumped all over this as I was a teenager wayyyy back in the 1980's. I knew all the trends up close and personal. Heck I had the big hair and blue eye shadow. I had a blast helping them get ready and of course I had to take pictures.

Would you look at all that hair?!?!?!?!

He is B-E-A-S-T.(Vern's word when something is way cool.)

He's sexy and he knows it! (from the song)

Vern came home and told me everyone thought he was a drug dealer!

I hope they had as much fun dressing up as I did dressing them up.

Game 6 - rolling along 2012

Beautiful morning once again for game 6. It really is to bad we are in such a drought.

This game it will be easy to identify Vern. He has an orange sleeve hanging out. What a hoot!  You can see it by this first photo.

Here we have some great blocking going on with Mr. Orange :-)

Here Vern is going for an assist.

PUSH!!!!

Vern played less this game than previous games. I don't know if he is not playing as well or just isn't trying. Here is another blocking shot.

They shut the scoreboard off when one team gets to far ahead so that is why I don't have a shot of the scoreboard. Final: 35-0

Vern's team is just rolling over their opponents.

Game 5 -2012 - aka - SLAUGHTER!

Picture perfect day. Our fall has been like this most days for months.

In this game Vern only got to play 2 plays in first quarter. I was a slightly OK a lot disappointed football mom. It is JUST not as fun to watch.  I wonder if he was punished for not going to practice Wednesday. I will never know...

This week both older kids went to Vern's game. They wanted to take the pictures for something to do while watching I think. This week's photos are courtesy of John and Ann having the camera. John took the first half and Ann the second.

Butt shot of Vern.

Here is Vern's new "spot" on the field. The sidelines.

Oh look, he gets to play!!!!

That's my Vern. Push him! Make a hole for the running back. GO VERN GO!

Just had to insert a photo of my beautiful daughter, even if her face is 3/4 covered.
Our team was called on a few penalties, one was illegal substitutions. I feel they were justified calls as they were sending in kids when they shouldn't be.  In this next shot Vern is going for the pig pile. Vern likes to call it a dog pile. It's fun to argue with him about which it is. :-)

This last shot is Vern going for another tackle. He does play very well, I just wish he had more playing time. I am sure all parents feel the same about their kids playing time...

Ending score: 49-7
They are one tough team!

Parent/teacher conferences

It is that time of year all ready. Time to head to the school and hear how your son/daughter is doing in the classroom.  In middle school our school district does things differently in that the kids have to present their work to the parents.  This involves the entire family participating.  I understand they want the kids to become proficient at speaking and giving presentations but personally I wish they would do that in school and leave the conferences to the adults.

Vern has been struggling with 6th grade this first semester. We have had multiple after schools, phone calls to teachers, undone homework, tears, on and on and on.

So I was unsure what to expect when we arrived at conferences.  The place was packed! The staff unlocked the doors precisely at 5:02 and everyone trampled to their respective areas. Luckily we were able to get a chair but some groups of parents/students did not. Vern gave his presentation of homework to date in each class. Good and bad papers. Then we waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Finally one teacher showed up. We were able to ask a couple general questions and they had to move on.

Then it was back to wait.

Wait.

Tapping toes and drumming fingers.

A couple more teachers eventually showed up and then we gave up on the last one.

I hated it. The more I write, the more I believe I am going to contact the school with this issue.

On an ending positive note, Vern had all A's and B's.

***Addendum***
I did contact the school and their response was you are welcome to schedule additional time with the teachers on a different week. We just don't advertise this.

Oh I wonder why???? Because you would have many many parents doing this and conferences would be for nothing?  No good answers but I did try.
